The site MATSU-e combines Eastern art (sumi-e) and bonsai. Both sumi-e
and bonsai are originated in China and later adopted by Japan.
Bonsai
The Chinese version of bonsai (Penjing) uses as basis the natural
shape of trees, where the Japanese the bonsai more created as a caricature
of a typical tree.
In Japan also, they have created the different styles of what we recognize
as the classic bonsai. Bonsai = tree in pot
Sumi-e
The Chinese version of sumi-e is using colors, where the Japanese
are using black ink, with can be diluted to several grey tones.
